On 25-27 February 2019, OPERANDUM partners gathered at UNESCO’s headquarters in Paris. Here, partners, stakeholders, related projects and international experts came together to discuss the implementation of nature-based solutions (NBS) for disaster risk reduction (DRR) and climate change adaptation (CCA), and how these solutions will contribute to advancing DRR and CCA Agenda.
During the technical workshop of first two days, OPERANDUM project partners focused on the development of OPERANDUM’s stakeholder engagement strategy.
Various sessions were held supporting this, including ‘Session towards engagement tactics in OPERANDUM’, ‘Engagement tactics and lessons leant’, ‘Risk management, Ethics and Stakeholders (hereafter SH)’ and ‘Technical Discussions on related OPERANDUM activities’. During these sessions, partners explained their work on, among others, the mapping of OPERANDUM’s Stakeholders, the analysis on SHs needs and requirements, the ethics and risk management involved when dealing with different SHs, OPERANDUM indicators related to SHs and centralizing the data from SHs. The collected data and information will subsequently be processes and used as contribution to the development of the stakeholder engagement strategy, the development of OPERANDUM GeoIKP, and several other activities.
On February 27th, UNESCO opened its doors for a wider discussion between international experts and EU sister projects, including OPERANDUM, on the identification of common issues related to socio-economical, modelling, risk assessment and policy indicators regarding nature based solutions.
During this information meeting chaired by Miguel Clüsener-Godt, experts including Kate Reilly (IUCN), Karen Sudmeier-Rieux (UNEP), Nicolas Faivre (EC), Lisa Danielson (OECD) and Peter Dogse (UNESCO) talked about how NBS and ecosystem services for DRR and CCA are (and/or should be) mainstreamed in policies and strategies and across multiple SDGs at international, European and national levels.
